The NBA Season is coming to a close and it means that besides the playoff, the awards night is close as well. MVP, sixthman of the year, ALL NBA team, name them all! But today I would like to talk the rookie of the year award.
Every year there are rookies who are intiguing and may either amuse us or annoy us. There are those unknowns who suddenly scores 30+points and there are those who were a complete fluff.
W/o further adieu, here are this year’s candidate and why they are:
- Derrick Rose – Many experts say that Derrick Rose is the sure winner of the award and why not? The dude scores 15+ per game, dishes out 6 assists per game and you can really see his game. You know this kid is gonna be a good asset in the future
- OJ Mayo – When Mayo’s name came in last year, there was really so much hype about him. He’s like LeBron, he’s a big stable guard, he is like Chauncey Billups and so. While he has never came close with those guys, Mayo is a proven star. He leads all rookies in scoring and has really great numbers to show.
- Brook Lopez and Marc Gasol – this big men are surprises this season. they are averaging 12 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 52% from the field. The guys can make an impact certainly if he can improve his game and toughness.
- Russel Westbrook – This is one of my favorite rookie. Very athletic and has got some hops!
- Michael Beasley – when the year started, I knew Beasley isn’t gonna make it for the ROY and not even close. Beasley is playing with Wade and the latter has been having his superb season. Nevertheless, Beasley is a nice talent.
- Eric Gordon – LA Clips has been on a losing season and them losing made a rookie named Eric Gordon really stand out. The guy had a 41 point game against Oklahoma and he can really light it out at any given night.
One thing that is certain is that this is a deep and talented core of rookies. I mean even the late picks are intriguing. Who’s my choice, Derrick Rose for sure. But who knows? How about you?
