Atlanta w/c made the playoffs in the past 2 seasons have started this season no one expected they would. 11-2, no blemish at their home court yet and simply just playing superbly.
They have beaten the likes of Boston, Denver and even the likes of fellow upcoming squads like Portland and Miami. Again one would say the season is too early to speak but just seeing them play as a team, you could sense that this is the best team Atlanta has had since joining the league. Does that mean we could put them in the elite list? Maybe not yet…
The Atlanta Hawks even 2-3 years ago is a very talented and athletic team. The team is composed of superstar Joe Johnson, veteran Mike Bibby and super athletic players like Josh Smith, Marvin Williams and Al Horford. With that core they managed to up their accomplishment from being a frequent lottery team to being a darkhorse. They pushed the Celtics to 7 games 2 years back then made the second round last year before bowing down in 4 games against Cleveland. Conference Final appearance for this year?
Usually the trend is like that except that the East has become stronger this season. Top teams like Cleveland, Boston and Orlando have all made roster upgrades and facing them is like facing a brick wall. Atlanta also made their own upgrade by acquiring scorer Jamal Crawford and veteran Joe Smith. So far this season, Atlanta is playing some superb basketball, playing fluidly while stamping that (surprisingly) suffocating defense. Joe has had multiple 30 point games and Crawford is scoring like he’s not a reserve player. Add Josh Smith whose inspired play have amazed coaches around the league. All in all you got a playoff team here which is a serious threat to any contender.
I have never been a fan of the Hawks but may turn to be one with their impressive play this season.
