Some thoughts on the Wizards this season

As I opened yahoo sports column, the headline really freaked me out. Gilbert Arenas will be out for the first month of the season and this really gave me a mild headache. Melvin knows that I’m a hardcore fan of Arenas ever since he wore that Wizards uniform. I believe that he could carry the Wizards to the promise land because of his skill and unwavering courage and resiliency. I admire his basketball story; from zero to hero, and really look upon his personality as a motivation for me to carry on with my own life. But this injury of his gave me some doubts on the Wizards this season, especially after the Wizards sign him to a $111 Million deal to keep him for six years in D.C. My primary concern is that I want to see how the big three playing together after several rough seasons plagued by injuries and getting a rhythm for them to compete and make some noise in the playoffs. Jamison is one of the best silent operators in the league, averaging 20 ppg and 10rpg. Getting those 20 points may not come easy knowing that your sharing the ball with Arenas, who I call a “Ball Hog” and also getting some touches that Caron Butler; their other big time player drastically needs. I know the Wizards can still be dangerous minus Arenas, but the East is now stronger and they need to be aggressive early in the season. But what does Arenas brings to this Wizards team? Of course scoring and personality.

Arenas is one of the most vocal and carefree player in the league. He’ll entertain you on and off the court which I find very efficient and effective means of reaching out to the people. But I prefer to see his on court antics because clearly when this player is healthy, he is a bona fide big time player capable of taking over games with his scoring and clutch time performances. He’s also the leader of this team because he’s their most competitive player in their roster and a focal point in their offense. If Gilbert can get back as early as December, count the Wizards already in the playoffs. With Butler already a reliable all-star player and Jamison continuing his monster presence in the court, expect the big three to create noise this season permitting that they all remain healthy to make a serious run in the post-season.
