Playoff Preview: Boston Vs. Chicago

Well this preview would seem to be a little late as the playoffs would start later this day. Anyways I think it would still make sense to voice my opinion on the series between the Boston Celtics and the Chicago Bulls.

Ok this is not probably the tightest matchup in the first round but I think its intriguing to see how these two teams would fare against each other. Here it is:

PG – Rondo vs. Rose —> Derrick Rose who for sure is going to be the NBA Rookie of the year this season, will surely have Rondo working hard on him. Both guards have supreme quickness but obviously Derrick Rose has an edge on this one.

SG – Allen Vs. Gordon –> Well Ben Gordon used to be a sixth man but now that he is starting I think he has to defend Ray Allen well. Allen is probably one of the underestimated scorers in the league who could do anything on the court as well. Both aren’t that good of a defender though.

SF – Pierce vs. Salmons –> John Salmons is a really good pickup for the Bulls. The last time they faced each other, Salmons fired 38 points. But of course talent wise, Paul Pierce undoubtedly is the better one.

PF – Davis vs. Thomas –> Davis is having a superb season especially when KG went down but still its not seen if he could actually contribute here in the playoffs. Tyrus, the athletic big man from LSU is a double-double monster and the fact that KG wouldn’t be playing is really gonna hurt Boston

C – Perkins vs. Noah –> Both are complimentary players and its crucial for them to perform well and do the dirty job for their teams.

Bench – Boston vs. Chicago –> I would say both have a great bench. Boston’s acquisition of Stephon Marbury has proved to be a good move (at least for now). Then there’s the sweet-shooting Eddie House, the returning Tony Allen and Mikki Moore. Chicago boasts former starters Kirk Hinrich and All Star Brad Miller so the quality of their bench is also good. As coaches always say, the bench is crucial in the postseason

BOSTON OR CHICAGO? Even though KG is injured I am sure Boston would be the winner in this one for 5 or 6 games. Boston had a terrible first round playoffs last season against Atlanta and sure they do hope for it not to happen again. Chicago is an inspired team, a young team on transition. Sure they could be scrappy, but that doesn’t mean they can handle Boston.

  1. john,

Hi Melvin, thanks for the comment on my blog. Here is my thought about this match up.

Rose has done a tremendous job for the Bulls and trade they made back in January was prove the turning point (so sad that it also involves Noce :( ). However as much they have improve the Bulls are not ready for something great in this playoffs. Lets see how they do next season.

Boston without KG are too much for the Bulls to handle. So they will win this one.

Then again, surprise do happen when you least expect it.

    • Melvin,

yep. I agree that the acquisitions of Salmons and Brad Miller are very crucial… they just won game 1 tonight and its the surprise you are talking about…

  2. I think the best first round match-up is Blazers-Rockets, but anyway: in my blog I thought Boston (like you) would beat Chicago 4-2, but I’m already starting to feel a little bit stupid. The Celtics will come out strong in Game 2 though.
IF the Bulls win this series, it wouldn’t bother me at all. Nothing wrong with a good upset.

    • Melvin,

i think it’s atlanta and Miami… But anyway the Blazers were pounded by the Rockets in game 1 and they seemed to look confused.. lets see how they fare with the suceeding games…
