Nikoloz Tskitishvili, the one guy whom they said to have single-handedly killed teams’ obsession with European players is again trying out to get into the NBA. Just in case you don’t know, he was the 5th overall pick of the Denver Nuggest in 2002. Throughout his unmeaningful career, he averaged just 3 points and less than 2 rebounds a game.
Tskitishvili used to be an intriguing talent. Although he was never really performing even at an average level during his years in Benetton, many were flabbergasted with this size and shooting, next Dirk eh? Well fast-forward now, it’s like its still the same. Every time this guy is dropped by a team, another team seems to be interested in him. I remember Mike D’ Antoni, Phoenix-coach then, getting him and hoping he can do good. It only took a season for him and the management to realize Nikoloz is still raw and really a “bust”.
He was in the summer league roster of the Knicks and is averaging over 10 points (he used to average 25 in 2004) and it surprises me how a lot of NBA writers still think the guy can make a difference someday. Im not being rude or so but I think the one guy that knows him the most is D’Antoni, his coach in Europe. And when D ‘ Antoni gave him up in Phoenix couple of years back, it exemplifies how “Skita”(his nickname) is really not suited for the NBA. Sure we all love the fact that he’s 7’0 and can play 4 positions as they say, shoot threes, run and maybe block couple of shots. But it is not just going to happen. or at least there is a very small percentage it will

well i have seen him play in summer league recently and it looked like he’s in his best shape. Still doubtful he can make the lineup though…
Maybe you’re right Gerard. Anyways if it is, then its such a waste of everything for him. I mean he was said to be “Dirk” and I believe he has all tools to be a good shooting big man..
