Michael Jordan’s “Last Shot” backboard up for auction.

The rim and backboard Jordan used to nail the most famous shot of his career is up for sale: “But one of the most amazing pieces is set to go up for auction in time for Jordan’s entrance into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame next month. The item is the complete backboard and rim from the Delta Center in Utah, where Jordan famously hit his last shot with the Chicago Bulls.

Here is a bit more background from the seller Grey Flannel:
On Sunday, June 14, 1998 with Game 6 of the NBA Finals on the line, everyone in the Delta Center, Utah Jazz coaches and players included knew the ball would end up in his hands. For the Chicago Bulls, too, it was another no-brainer. There was no play to call, no screens to set. It was simple: Get it to Michael. With Chicago trailing by three points in the final minute, Jordan made a layup to cut the Jazz lead to one. The Bulls were in need of a defensive stop. When John Stockton passed the ball to Karl Malone, Michael stole the ball away and dribbled to the front. Guarding him was Bryon Russell, one of the Jazz’s best perimeter defenders. Jordan drove inside the 3-point line, crossed over Russell and hit a 20-foot jump shot to give the Bulls an 87-86 lead with 5.2 seconds left. That amazing, clutch shot gave the Bulls an 87-86 victory and their sixth championship in eight years. Jordan had overcome fatigue and finished with 45 points as he won his sixth Finals Most Valuable Player award, while reaffirming his status as the NBA’s best player. It would be Michael Jordan’s final shot in a Bulls uniform. The historic backboard measures approximately 68” W x 38” H x ½” thick and is made of glass weighing approximately 250 pounds. It has a foam rubber border at the bottom and the official NBA logo on the lower left corner. The orange metal rim and net that MJ’s “final shot” swooshed through are firmly attached and intact. On the back of the rim is the “Gared Sports” manufacturers stamp along with numerous inspection stickers. It is in EX overall condition. This lot will not be available for viewing at Grey Flannel in NY. The winning bidder will be responsible for all FOB shipping and crating costs, as the backboard and rim are located in Massachusetts. This is your opportunity to own a piece of basketball history that involves the greatest player in basketball history, Michael Jordan and his final shot as a Chicago Bull. Also available as a part of this lot is the stanchion. It is located in the Milwaukee area and will not be available for viewing at Grey Flannel in New York. The stanchion weighs in excess of one thousand pounds. Should the winning bidder wish to acquire it, he/she will be responsible for all shipping, freight, crating, packaging and insurance costs as they will be quite expensive.
