Denver’s head coach George Karl said that Billups is a player that doesn’t have skills. Well maybe he doesn’t mean it after all as the former Finals MVP averaged 30+ points while shooting 80% from three-point land and committing no turnovers in the first 2 games.
I am a long time fan of Billups and I really felt sad when Detroit traded him. Billups said to have turned the Nuggets into playoff hopefulls to contenders this season. It’s actually so true. Denver’s problem before with AI is that there’s so much talent in their team but it’s not utilized properly. With the arrival of Billups its a different story then. The one thing I admired about Billups is that he doesn’t need to hold the ball that much to be effective. I mean, him scoring 17 ppg a game in the regular season is even surprising since you really don’t notice him scoring points. He’s leadership in Motown is the same leadership that he’s been giving into the young Denver Nuggets team.
Against New Orleans, I thought Denver would have had a tough time. I mean everytime Denver faces New Orleans (Iverson-era), it seems that Chris Paul and company just cruise their way so easy. This postseason shows it’s different now! The Nuggets pounded the Hornets in the first 2 games while playing a near perfect game. Chris Paul is frustrated and so as the whole Hornets team. I think Byron Scott must really put a better defensive plan for Billups if they don’t want to get the broom!
Let’s see, New Orleans is a nice home team as a far as last playoff is concern so I know they would make it tough for Denver. But still, I can’t help but admire Billups for what he has done in the first two games.

I think the Hornets just didn’t pay attention to him. I mean, I thought they could’ve had given him more physical play but they didn’t. Chauncey is a veteran and if you give him a ‘D’ like that, he’ll just swallow it!
